September 1- 30 Veera Rajaratnam’s Art on Display at the Library, 1314 Columbia Avenue, Franklin. This exciting display includes photography & poetry of beautiful “Nature and Scenes” from Tennessee and from “Travels” around the world. Williamson County Public Library hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday & Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sunday, 1 p.m to 5:30 p.m.
September 4, 5 21st Annual Franklin Jazz Festival, Franklin Public Square, Historic Downtown Franklin, produced by Zia Music Production.Tickets: Adults $8 per day in advance (available through the Web site, or at BrightStone, or The GEAR Foundation); $10 per day at the gate/Children 12 and under, and all active military with i.d. are free. Gates open at 4:00 p.m.; performances 5–10 p.m. Two stages. Saturday headliner: Buckwheat Zydeco; Sunday headliner: Clint Jones. Headliners perform at 8:30. Food vendors, crafts, beer tent. September 6 Labor Day Holiday In observance of Labor Day, all Williamson County Parks and Recreation indoor and outdoor facilities will be closed on Monday, September 6. Facilities reopen at their regularly scheduled times beginning Tuesday, September 7.
September 8 Celebration of Nations, O’More College of Design, 423 South Margin Street, Franklin. 25-30 cultural booths featuring ethnic food, wares and performances. 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Sister Cities of Franklin and Williamson County & O’More College of Design. September 14 – October 21, Spanish in the Workplace, 24-hour Spanish course offered by Columbia State, in partnership with the Williamson County-Franklin Chamber of Commerce. Course covers basic conversation, pronunciation, and grammar needed to communicate with Spanish speakers. Classes run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., beginning September 14, and ending October 21. Course will be held at the Middle College High School, 108 Everbright Avenue, Franklin. September 18 EMS “Nite Lites” The Williamson County-Parks & Recreation Department presents a free community event honoring Fairview and Williamson County first responders. 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Fairview Recreation Complex, 2714 Fairview Blvd., Fairview, 37062. Meet our local firefighters, law enforcement personnel, and ambulance drivers. Children can see the vehicles, climb aboard the fire trucks, and try the horns and sirens. Festival activities will be expanded to include fun educational programming that focuses on Recycling & Sustainability. Also new this year is the Franklin Battle of the Barbeques (a sanctioned Memphis in May barbeque competition). November 5 Wine Down Main Street, the downtown Franklin merchants will again host a unique wine-tasting event. 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. Main Street will be closed from Second Avenue to Fifth Avenue, with all food providers set up in the Public Square and throughout Main Street. General admission tickets are $75/person in advance until October 29; after that the cost increases to $85. Tickets include all wine, beer, and food tastings.
